ANSYS SpaceClaim Direct Modeler (ANSYS SCDM) brings you a new way to manipulate 3D geometry models. The model becomes completely dynamic, allowing to move, stretch, add and remove with mouse movements. All changes to the 3D model occur in real time on the screen giving instant feedback on designs. This functionality works with existing native CAD models from third-party systems as well as 3D models that have been built within ANSYS SCDM. CAD features can be dimensioned, resulting in a parametric CAD model from non-parametric imports. For example, an IGES file can be imported into ANSYS SCDM and modified as if it was fully parametric. This type of geometry creation and manipulation is known as direct modelling. ANSYS SCDM connects to ANSYS Workbench allowing for rapid design changes and updating simulation results. Up-front design optimization becomes quicker and simpler with ANSYS SCDM.

An analyst can choose to optimize the design automatically by letting the results of the analysis drive the model's key design parameters. ANSYS SCDM allows related geometry sets to be associated and modified together at any time. The geometry within ANSYS SCDM is free from the constraints typical of most CAD models, so the modifications have intuitive and expected results. This approach is ideal for design optimization because the analyst can create driving parameters whenever and wherever necessary instead of having to predict them at the beginning of the design process before they are known.
ANSYS SpaceClaim Direct Modeler CAD Interoperability
Each seat of ANSYS SCDM contains translators for IGES and STEP. For import/export of ACIS, Parasolid, Catia V4, NX, SolidWorks, Inventor, and Pro/ENGINEER formats, the appropriate Workbench Geometry Interface must be purchased (if not already deployed). For Catia V5 the add-on ANSYS SpaceClaim Catia V5 Interface must be purchased.

ANSYS SpaceClaim Direct Modeler fully interoperates with ANSYS 12.0 and 11.0 software, and does support ANSYS Workbench 2.0. It is based on SpaceClaim Engineer 2009, a CAD-neutral, 3D direct modeler designed for non-CAD experts who need to import, repair, and prepare models for engineering analysis.
