The partnership between Componeering Inc. (Helsinki, Finland) and EVEN - Evolutionary Engineering AG, (Zürich, Switzerland) announced today aims to provide state-of-the-art software solutions for structural simulation and design of composite structures. EVEN AG's recently launched "ComPoLyX" composites post-processing software will be integrated with the well-established ESAComp software from Componeering. The resulting package provides a comprehensive, scalable software suite. Componeering and EVEN are also planning other new development projects using the combined expertise of both companies.

The development of ComPoLyX was driven by the demands of EVEN AG's projects in Formula 1 racing and America's Cup yacht design. ComPoLyX works with the widely-used ABAQUS, ANSYS and NASTRAN finite element software. It addresses the known deficiencies of standard FE software for composites postprocessing by applying advanced failure theories and using intuitive ways to visualize the results. Based on recent research conducted at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, a unique feature of ComPoLyX is the ability to determine throughthe- thickness normal stresses of thick curved laminates. The internal data structure of ComPoLyX provides unmatched computational performance that can be further enhanced by employing multiple processors.

ESAComp is well-established software for the analysis and design of composite laminates, sandwich constructions, and structural elements made of laminates. ESAComp is applied from conceptual and preliminary design to analyses of details and post-processing of finite element results.

Developed in the 1990's, as a European Space Agency supported project, ESAComp has now been on the market for 10 years and is used in numerous industry sectors, research institutes and universities in over 30 countries around the world.
